Imprint | About us

The establishment of the national park has made it even easier for North Sea guests to experience nature intensely. Many communities have developed information centres offering services to provide new insights into a fascinating nature reserve. Heading the list: the Multimar Wattforum in Tönning and its many large aquariums. National park rangers and staff from nature protection associations offer excursions to explore nature, photo safaris and hikes through the mudflats for old and young everywhere in the area. One of the annual highlights is seeing the millions of migrating birds as they make a rest stop in the mudflats.

All of the North Frisian islands and holms – Sylt, Amrum, Föhr and Pellworm – have ferry connections to the mainland. There is also a railway dam over to Sylt, the island with 1000 faces: surf and mudflats, sandy beaches and nature sanctuaries, tradition and beautiful thatched-roof houses, top hotels and gourmet restaurants. The Frisian way of life is still alive and well on Föhr and Amrum – both with extensive sandy beaches – as well. Pellworm has maintained its rural character. Always a highlight: an excursion or short trip to one of the five inhabited holms. Hooge, Oland and Langeness are especially easy to reach by ship.
